Greetings all!
It’s been a while… But good things take time.
I’m pleased to announce that I’ve found a way to create your own latex shine. It works the same and uses the same ingredients the commercial products use, minus some preservatives for shelf-life (<2yrs). If you follow my lube recipe, then you already have the ingredients you need!
Enough BS, here is how to make it.
Much like the lube recipe, you are mixing Cyclomethicone and Dimethicone 350CST (Polydimethylsiloxane). But instead of Dimethicone being the dominating ingredient, it’s Cyclomethicone. The ratio that works great is 20oz of Cyclomethicone to 15oz of Dimethicone (350CST). Depending on the thickness of Dimethicone (I always use 350cst), you may need to thin it out more with Cyclomethicone. I use an immersion blender to mix it and then use empty soap bottles for storage.
Application is the same if you’ve used commercial products before. I use a 5-gallon bucket filled with around 2-3 gallons of warmish water (more on the warmer side) since cold water will lead to diminished results. I then add about 1 or 2 pumps of my shine to the bucket and mix with my hand. Now you can dip/dunk/whatever your garments into the bucket until you are happy with the shine. Depending on the thickness and condition of your garments, you may need to add some more shine.
I’ve tested this on numerous products and thicknesses with EXCELLENT results. Instead of paying 28$~ for 8oz of shiner, I can make around 35-40oz for half, which is enough to last most folks a year. Depending on how you mix your lube if you follow my recipe, you may have some excess ingredients leftover and be able to put those to use, making latex shine!
I hope you all enjoy it!
